Let’s be honest: most of us spend way too much time hunting for that one god-tier indicator or a secret signal group that promises 90% win rates. The internet is flooded with them, yet most traders are still stuck in the red.

The truth is your strategy is rarely the issue.

Most people already have a system that could work. The breakdown happens in the execution. It’s the impulsive entries, closing a winner too early because your heart is racing, or revenge-trading after a bad loss. It’s not the market, it’s the person behind the keyboard.

The memory trap

The biggest mistake I see, and I’ve done this too, is relying on memory. You remember the massive win that felt incredible, and you definitely remember the painful liquidation. But the 200 trades in between? They’re a blur.

Without actual data, you’re just guessing. You’re repeating the same mistakes and blaming market manipulation or bad luck when, really, you just don’t understand your own patterns.

Trading is a business, not a hobby

Professional traders don’t hope for a good week. They treat this like a business. That means:

  • Recording every single entry and exit.
  • Taking notes on your emotional state. Were you bored? Angry? Rushing?
  • Reviewing the ugly trades, not just the ones you would post about.

It’s tedious at first. But this level of detail is what exposes why you’re stuck. You might realize you lose a disproportionate share of your money after 3:00 PM, or that your gut feeling trades are actually what’s draining your account.

Why we built the PnL App

I got tired of messy, complicated spreadsheets that took forever to update, so we built the PnL App to make the boring stuff easy.

The goal isn’t just to see if you made money today. It’s to understand why. Once you see your patterns laid out in cold, hard data, the discipline part actually becomes easier because the numbers don’t lie.

One thing I’ve learned: the most boring thing will make you money.

Stop hunting for a new strategy. Start looking at your own data. That’s where the edge is.
